The story of Ruth gives us a good insight into the life and purposes of Jesus. You need to understand a little of the Jewish social laws. For example, if a Jewish family got into severe financial difficulty they could hire themselves out as servants, or even sell their property. However, it wasn’t a sale as we know it, for when the year of Jubilee came, they would regain the use of their property. The year of Jubilee came around every 50 years, but there was a way for you to regain the use of your land before the year of Jubilee, if you had someone within your immediate family who was willing to pay the price owed up to the year of Jubilee. They could redeem your property. That person was called a Kinsman Redeemer. (Redeem means to buy back.) Leviticus 25:25-31, 47-55
