For this last picture of Jesus in the Old Testament we are going to take an event in the story of Esther which is found in chapter 4. A man named Haman plotted to have all the Jews killed, but he does not know that Queen Esther is a Jew. Esther’s uncle encourages her to go to the King and “beg for mercy and plead with him for her people” verse 8. Persian law prohibited anyone coming before the King uninvited. If a person did so, they faced the death penalty. “The only exception to this is for the king to extend the gold scepter to him and spare his life” Verse 11. Esther calls all the Jews throughout the country to three days of prayer and fasting. After that she would chance her life and go before the king uninvited. She said “If I perish, I perish”. Verse 16. “When he saw Queen Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out to her the golden scepter…”5:2
